AMC has officially released its 4-minute trailer for Frank Darabont’s zombie drama The Walking Dead, as seen at Comic-Con last month. It’s chilling and intense, and you should watch it now:
The zombies are coming in October
As we all take a collective breath and step back to absorb all of the goodness that Comic-Con 2010 bestowed upon fans of television, here’s the 4-minute trailer that was shown at SDCC for AMC‘s The Walking Dead series by Frank Darabont. It’s a bootleg recording of the trailer shown on the show floor, but it’s the best quality version I’ve found (until AMC releases the high-def themselves).
The Walking Dead follows the of survivors of a zombie apocalypse and their efforts to find their loved ones and a safe place to live. The buzz on this one is off the charts, and judging by this trailer, it’s going to be intense. Note that the trailer contains some language that’s mildly NSFW.
Cable networks look to Comic-Con for PR
It’s not exactly news that San Diego Comic-Con International is a big deal for Hollywood. Genre movies and TV shows can be made or buried by fan reactions to what they see at the Con.
Several networks have, in recent years, used Comic-Con as a launching pad to build buzz for their newest and hottest shows with panels and show-floor booths with swag giveaways. This year two of the most buzzed-about shows are releasing tie-in comic books as enticements for hungry fans.
AMC’s Rubicon
What if there were a secret, fourth branch of the American government? That’s the intriguing premise behind Rubicon, the new conspiracy thriller set to air this summer on AMC. Thirteen episodes have been ordered, and will premiere in August. AMC is presenting a special sneak peek at the pilot episode of Rubicon this Sunday night after the season finale of Breaking Bad.
Check out the trailer below.
First look at AMC’s Walking Dead
Cable television just keeps proving itself as the place to find edgy, original programming. Take a look at The Walking Dead, a six-episode series from AMC, which started filming today and premieres in October.
The series is based on a comic book of the same name by writer Robert Kirkman, about a group of survivors looking for a safe place to call home after a zombie apocalypse. Despite the outrageous plot, the show has the potential to be at the gritty quality level of True Blood or Mad Men, thanks to the major league pedigree it boasts from writer and director Frank Darabont. Darabont is a multiple Oscar-nominated talent, best known for his big-screen adaptations of Stephen King’s The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Darabont has written and is directing all six episodes of the show, which AMC is billing as a “first season,” obviously in the hopes of extending the show should it catch on. Sci-fi mega-producer Gale Anne Hurd (Terminator, Armageddon, Aliens, Alien Nation, etc.) is onboard as executive producer.
The Walking Dead stars Afterlife‘s Andrew Lincoln as small-town policeman Rick Grimes, who becomes leader to the group of survivors, along with his wife Lori, played by Prison Break‘s Sarah Wayne Callies. While searching for a safe haven and evading the zombies at every turn, the survivors will also have to contend with their own interpersonal conflicts, as well as the lengths each of them is prepared to go to, to stay alive.
