With President-elect Obama Madness in full swing, it’s only appropriate for film buffs to look at the best (and worst) politically-inspired movies to hit the big screen. Check out this excellent review and scrounge together some of the recommended titles for a movie marathon.
Porn star to headline Soderbergh drama
Porn star Sasha Grey recently got her biggest break as she was chosen by Academy-award winning director Steven Soderbergh to star in his new low-budget drama The Girlfriend Experience.
The movie tells the story of a call girl. and is part of Soderbergh’s six-picture deal with Mark Cuban.
Scorsese to direct TV episode?
Celebrated film director Martin Scorcese may dip his feet in the TV pool by directing a new project for HBO.
The HBO drama pilot is for Boardwalk Empire. Scorsese is already an executive producer of the show, which is based on Nelson Johnson’s book that revolves around the gambling operations in Atlantic City during the 1920s.
If ever Scorsese agrees to the project, this is going to be his first TV drama gig. His only other TV credit is directing one episode in the Amazing Stories series.
Gillian Anderson to star in biopic
Mulder fans will kill me for saying this but I really think that Gillian Anderson is the more talented actor
between her and David Duchovny. That’s why I find it so disappointing that she just disappeared after The X-Files concluded.
Fortunately, The X-Files movie sequel may have reignited her passion for acting. She is reportedly going to star in and produce a biopic on the life of Martha Gellhorn a pioneering female war correspondent who managed to gain coverage of the various conflicts from the Spanish Civil War to Vietnam while also trying to juggle her personal relationships, including a marriage to Ernest Hemingway. Anderson will play the title role in the movie.
No word yet on possible release dates.
Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants for August ’08 release
The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants was one of the more popular chick flick movies of 2006. Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn were perfect for their roles and gave the movie a really fresh and lively spirit.
Now the four are back for another go at the sisterhood as they are set to appear in the Sisterhood sequel due in August 2008. The movie is actually based on a series of books from Ann Brashares. The sequel will attempt to squeeze in three books’ worth of material into one movie. The four are now in college and thus, will have a more mature theme. Do we expect a bit of nudity here since they’re “adults” now? no one knows yet but do expect to see the four actresses jump off a cliff and into the ocean as part of their “improv” suggestions for the movie.
