Over the years, we amass so much stuff that our houses seem smaller than they really are. Instead of moving somewhere bigger, you can move your things around and reclaim the space that was once yours. Organizing the house might even save you money. Here are some ways you can organize your home and make it a better place to live in while getting some cleaning done in the process.

Organize the Bills

Bills come every month and you might need to keep these documents for reference later on. A very easy way to avoid a stack of bills on your desk is to buy or make an envelope holder. You may even use clear plastic folders to hold your bills, arranged by date or by company.

Clean Up Your Desk

Desks have a tendency to get messy very quickly but with some ingenuity, that can be avoided. Once a desk has been cleared of junk, you should place smaller organizers inside to keep items separate and distinguishable. Make a compartment for pens, staplers, and other office supplies.

Get Wires Out of The Way

Electrical wires are often found all over the house and are unsightly and dangerous. Keep wires away from foot traffic and figure out a way to keep them bundled up and out of sight. You may get creative when it comes to camouflaging them.

Repurpose Bookshelves

If you find that you’ve got more room on your bookshelves than books, you can use them to store other items. This will be best for things that get used often because placing them on bookshelves keeps them within easy reach.

Round Up Remote Controls

Most homes have multiple devices that comprise their entertainment systems and each appliance has its own remote control. Turn an old box into a remote control bin so that they are easier to find and are all in one place.

Reuse Containers

Take a look around and see what you can use as storage bins. An old toy box, for example, can double as a bin for something else entirely. This will eliminate the need for more bins, streamlining your home even more.

Donate

There are some items that you might not have the heart to throw away so consider donating them instead. They must be in decent condition and not contain any harmful materials. Donating may already be a good deed on its own but when you donate, you help save the environment, too.

Discard

There will be a lot that you will have to throw away. Comb through all the closets and cabinets to look for things that haven’t seen daylight in a long time. Drawers tend to go unnoticed because you don’t easily see what’s inside but you’d be surprised at how much junk they can hold. Get rid of nonessential items and put garbage where it belongs.

Empty Out the Medicine Cabinet

Clean out your medicine cabinet. If it isn’t always used, it can end up collecting a considerable amount of old medication.
