Art is the expression of the soul. Or, to be less dramatic about it, you can use art to appreciate life, keep it around as a relaxing hobby, or develop any kind of relationship to it that personalizes your current attitudes as they rest. It’s a complex concept, reduced to the simplest of elements, and used in a self-defining way.
But outside of those semantics, there are practical reasons to get started in art, whichever way you choose that to be, including working with the idea of art therapy, using it as a meditation, molding it to your financial advantage, using it to bond with a group, or even choosing it is a healthier habit than say, drinking, or overeating.
Art Therapy
Art therapy is used in all sorts of different situations in the modern era. It can be used to help addicts recover, it can be used to help children express anxiety or stress or anger, it can be used as a communication tool, either explicitly or implicitly, that allows people to get some of the ill-will in their lives out to the surface to be dealt with.
Meditation
An interesting new twist to an old idea is adult coloring books for meditation. Just that small marketing shift and countless new people have bought the books and the pens and the pencils, and are back to enjoying the idea of writing utensil on paper, working their way through designs no longer incorporating cartoons, but rather deep and intricate patterns that slow the brain down and absorb some of the fracturing of a daily modern existence.
Financial Profit
And good artists can certainly make money off of their skills! Whether you’re a painter, photographer, illustrator, or graphic designer, there are so many opportunities in the art field for professionals right now that the options are astounding. Even on an individual, private level, anyone can make an Etsy store and be up and running with their creations in no time at all.
Group Bonding
Art has an interesting way of bringing disparate people together as well. Whether it’s a bunch of people working on an artistic project together, or perhaps even enjoying art together (like at a museum, for example), the experience of art, of concurrent by disparate emotional connection, is a fascinating thing.
Choosing Healthy Habits
And think of that habits that you have right now when you’re bored. Do you go get a snack? Do you watch TV? Sit and play with your phone for a while? Art takes the place of all of these things that do nothing for you, and gives you a positive place to use your energy instead.
