The American Dream has been crumbling a lot in recent years. People realize that they have one life to live and the idea of striving for that job, the house, the spouse, and the 2.5 kids doesn’t have the same appeal as it used to. People still love the idea of living in luxury and having money in their pockets, but they’d rather spend it in different ways than on the traditional cars and houses.
Modern culture says that experience is more valuable than belongings. This couldn’t be more true. While there is nothing wrong with wanting the American Dream, people are realizing that the American Dream doesn’t hold the secret of happiness within it’s shiny walls and spacious balconies.
If you’re living in 2016 wondering how you can be living your life better, here are some suggestions:
Ditch the Stuff
You’re hearing a lot more celebrities coming out now days about how even in the midst of their riches and fame, they haven’t found happiness. Celebrities have everything you ever dream of right at their fingertips, yet they don’t know why all of the stuff that they own or have access to doesn’t fill the void.
This is a worldwide problem, but if you stop focusing on all of the stuff you don’t have and you stop striving to fill your life with all the stuff, you might find that the secret to contentment lies in having less. The poorest people in the world are often found to be the happiest. Maybe they’ve found the secret secret of happiness in love and thankfulness.
Go Somewhere Else
It’s easy to get comfortable where you are right now. You aren’t being challenged, everything it’s somewhat self sufficient, but you somehow feel yourself slowly dying inside. That’s because stagnancy breeds bacteria that deprives you of the oxygen you need to live. In 2016, get out and explore.
Go someplace different. Pack up your valuables, pack them away in a safe place, rent out your house and travel on that money. Once you try this out, you’ll find you learn so much about yourself, about the world, and about the meaning of life.
Learn to Love
In 2016, while you’re on your travels and condensing your belongings, learn how to love in a fuller capacity. Try not to be so negative and try not to be so selfish about things. When you learn to love in a greater capacity, that could mean person to person, it could be learning to love yourself, it could be learning to better love the earth, it could mean learning to love God. Love is the thing that casts out all fear. When you find love, you find life in its fullest capacity.
