It’s essential to understand the art of making it through the screening process. So, how do you stand out from a wannabe actor as a professional at an audition? Take a look at some of these tips for your first movie audition.
Arrive Early
It sounds like simple logic to many people. After all, it’s a job, right? However, you’d be surprised how many people show up late to auditions. If you want to impress the casting director, then you won’t do so by running in the door past call time.
Arrive with plenty of time to spare so that you can master your lines and scope out the competition. Leave anything else that’s going on in your life outside the door and arrive ready to impress.
Dress The Part
In order to be as convincing as possible that you embody the role you’re auditioning for, it helps to dress the part. That doesn’t mean that you should show up in full costume; however, it can significantly improve your chances to wear a hint of the character you’re hoping to be cast as.
For example, if your character is a successful businesswoman, you should show up in a business-appropriate outfit which hints at who you’re hoping to play. If you’re auditioning for a rugged character who lives on the streets, then this attire wouldn’t be as practical. Be creative without going overboard.
Be Confident
Walk in the door with your shoulders rolled back and your head held high. Be aware of your facial expressions and vocal tone. If you’re nervous, now is the time to practice those acting skills. Do your best to play the part of a confident young actor who is about to nail the role they’re auditioning for.
Don’t forget to smile big and above all, be friendly! No one wants to work with a diva.
Study Your Character
Don’t show up with no idea about who you’re reading for. Know the script and understand who the character is. Where did you come from? What is your objective? What kind of tactics are you using to obtain your objective? Knowing all of these facts about your character will help you make stronger choices.
