Geeks love movies whether it’s about a high-tech production, one that’s based on a comic hero, an action or adventure film with a futuristic setting or even one with a horror twist. They go for films that let their imaginations work, those that allow them to create their own worlds although not necessarily in the sense of encouraging them to make it a reality.
There have been movies in the past that provided a lot of inspiration to geeks. But then again, there are also many new and upcoming films that have great potential in attracting this set of movie fans who love technology.
The Classics
The Matrix, a science fiction action film, was a big hit in 1999. Starring Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne, the movie that took place in a dystopian future boasts of rapid twists and turns that were created through a visual effect called “bullet time.”
Nobody can deny how the Star Wars epic series made a great impact on millions of movie fans. First released in 1977, this George Lucas film was huge success that it led to sequels and even a TV series. Today, various merchandise continue to be produced featuring the Star Wars logo and characters.
Among the Marvel comics characters, Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr. got a lot of international attention. It’s big success in 2008 has resulted in two sequels with another one coming up in 2015 entitled Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Tron is another science fiction film that gained a lot of followers including the geeks. Released in 1982, the film produced by Walt Disney was among the modern sci-fi movies that featured computer animation and live action.
Films to Watch Out for
Next year will see more techie and inspirational geek films in the big screen.
Selfless by Tarsem Singh who produced The Cell, The Fall and Immortals is just one of them. This science fiction thriller film is all about a dying man whose consciousness was transferred to the body of a younger and healthier man. The twist here is that the younger man belong to a murderous secret organization.
The famous toy blocks will hit the big screen in 2014 with the Lego Movie. To be featured here are the DC characters such as Superman, Green Lantern, Batman and Wonder Woman and the directors doing the film are Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
Fans of the 80s should watch out for the sequel of 22 Jump Street, a remake of the TV show. The first film released in 2012 was considered one of the funniest in that year thereby prompting directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
Another superhero expected on the big screen is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to Marvel, the movie has a political thriller twist and will star Robert Redford as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Those looking for some action-packed films should also include X-Men: Days of the Future Past and Mad Max: Fury Road in their must-watch movie list.
