Usually even in the most terrible movies, at the very least you can get a bit of viewing pleasure from the cars featured in the movie, especially in car chase scenes. However, some movies feature cars so terrible that there’s no pleasure to be found in them. This is pretty hard to do – who doesn’t love cars? Well, here are four of the worst movie cars in film history that managed to accomplish this difficult feat. Most of these films are actually good but we must still congratulate their choice of automobile for making our eyes bleed instead of going dreamy with car lust.
1. The 1976 AMC Pacer from “Wayne’s World”
The Mirth Mobile has got to be one of the ugliest cars to ever grace the silver screen. This car was painted sky blue with incredibly tacky flame decals behind the front tires. The AMC Pacer was not a car designed to appeal to anyone with a sense of aesthetics. That fact, along with a lack of power and little room for passengers or a trunk eventually caused AMC to stop making Pacers by 1980. This car may not be available for purchase anymore, but it will never be forgotten in the embarrassing annals of pop culture. In this particular car’s favor though, it was more interesting than the average Pacer thanks to a red licorice dispenser and full bar tap above the glove box.
2. The 1984 Ford Econoline from “Dumb and Dumber”
The Ford Econoline in question belongs to the character Harry Dunne, who invested his life savings into this van in order to make it look like a gigantic sheepdog, complete with a nose, tongue, ears, legs and tail. He made the Econoline into a dog mobile in order to advertise his pet grooming business Mutt Cutters. Lloyd calls it a shaggin’ wagon, but it’s highly doubtful that that was the kind of attention the car attracted.
3. The 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire from “National Lampoon’s Vacation”
The Ford LTD Country Squire – excuse me, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster – may be a good car for road trips and camping thanks to plenty of storage space on the top of the car along with plenty of space inside the car for passengers. However, that hideous wood siding and metallic pea color makes this station wagon look like someone vomited over a wood floor.
4. The 1975 Dodge Tradesman in “Napoleon Dynamite”
The cheese like color of this camper van complements the cheesiness of this movie perfectly. Uncle Rico used this Dodge Tradesman to peddle Tupperware and sleazy herbal enhancement products. The van was also roomy enough for Uncle Rico to live out of it. You rarely see cars this hideous in real life, mostly because camper tops are out of style and most people choose cars in much nicer, if somewhat boring, colors. This car was sold on eBay in 2008, hopefully to someone that had no intention of ever driving it.
