The glitzy awards ceremony that usually kicks off the new year’s celebrity red carpet affairs has now been hit hard by the writers strike, which is still going on strong. So instead of the extravaganza of designer gowns, big names, entrances, scandals et al, what viewers will now have to look forward to is a much-pared-down “magazine-format” show, where the awards will still be given, just not in the usual way. A press conference at the Beverly Hilton hotel will ensue, which is when the winners will be announced (yawn).
Jorge Camara, president of the press association which owns the Golden Globes said in a depressing statement:
“We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007’s outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television”
“We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year’s Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled,” he told the public.
