Everyone’s getting all excited about the imminent release of Iron Man 2. The movie is one of the most hotly anticipated sequels in recent years since the first movie was such a big hit.
According to various tracking surveys, there is a strong chance that Iron Man 2 could go past the $158.4 million opening record set by the Dark Knight.
The growing buzz from viewers is being largely attributed to star Robert Downey Jr. A lot of women, especially those with ages from their 20s to 30s are very interested in seeing Downey in the big screen once again. Also, males are expected to troop to the theaters in order to watch Iron Man and the various action sequences promised by the movie. Even the demographic that is least interested in the movie, the teen girls, are showing some rumblings of interest, too.
If Iron Man’s record is any indication then the sequel is going to explode in a big way. The original movie had a $98.6 million opening and eventually grossed $318.4 million. With an international gross of $266.7 million, the movie’s worldwide take was $585.1 million.
As for me, I am definitely going to watch this. This is the movie that will finally make me go to a theater again this year.
Cheadle replaces Howard in Iron Man 2
It’s confirmed.
Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2.
Howard played Col. James Rhodes, Tony Stark’s friend and future hero as well as he is bequeathed War Machine.
According to reports, negotiations over salary was the main culprit in talks bogging down between Howard and Marvel Studios.
Much as I think Cheadle is a great actor I just don’t see him as donning the War Machine suit. I guess a War Machine movie may not happen after all.
Iron Man DVD for September release
One of the most anticipated DVD releases this year is the Iron Man DVD. Online forums are abuzz on when the DVD or Blu-ray of the hit movie will finally hit stores.
Paramount Home Entertainment has finally confirmed the date for Iron Man’s release and it’s going to be on September 30.
Three different variants will be available for sale, a Two-Disc Special Collector’s Edition, a Single-Disc Edition and a Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Disc.
As a way of drumming up interest for the release (like they still need it for Iron Man), Marvel Studios will be distributing a flash drive that contains a sneak peek of the DVD at the Comic Con that will be held next week.
Iron Man sequel set
“Strike while the iron is hot” seems to have been taken to heart by Marvel Studios as plans have already been revealed for the Iron Man sequel.
According to an article that came out in Military.com, Terrence Howard (who plays Col. James Rhodes in the movie) spilled that he will start filming for Iron Man 2 starting March 2009. Of course, not only will Howard return but also director Jon Favreau and the uber-cool Robert Downey, Jr. Gwyneth Paltrow is also set to return. The expected release of the movie is April 30, 2010.
Tony Stark fans won’t have to wait almost two years before they see their favorite hero on screen. Just watch the upcoming Incredible Hulk to see a cool Tony Stark cameo with Robert Downey Jr. himself.
First pic of Samuel L. Jackson as Octopus
Samuel L. Jackson’s surprise cameo in Iron Man as Nick Fury will definitely be in the list of most memorable movie cameos for 2008, and a shoo-in for the best film cameos of all time. Jackson is an avowed comicbook fan so any opportunity to appear in a comicbook property is a treat for him. Much like his new role as the Octopus in The Spirit.
The Spirit is based on the award-winning comicbook by Will Eisner and is directed by another comicbook legand, Frank Miller. Jackson plays the arch-nemesis of The Spirit. Comic Con recently released the first picture of Jackson as The Octopus, and to say that he looks so bad ass in the photo is a vast understatement.
