Chicken Catcher Kevin Skinner Wins America’s Got Talent

One thing’s for sure Kevin Skinner does not go for plain boring jobs. Before winning America’s Got Talent and so turning professional singer with his own show in Vegas, Skinner was a chicken catcher. Like many people I never even knew such a job existed.

So how does a chicken catcher turn into a singing sensation? The answer is simple Kevin Singer’s got one heck of a talent and he was so nice and sweet everyone just fell in love with him. So now aside from his own show in Vegas he’s also a million bucks richer thanks to the America’s Got Talent pot prize. With his money and his own show the simple man who used to “sit on the porch and count the stars” is now counted as one of America’s singing stars.

Aside from the new America’s Got Talent champ other singing sensations also performed at the show’s finale not least of which is Britain’s darling Susan Boyle. She sang Rolling Stones’ ”Wild Horses” and, not surprisingly, brought the house down with her rendition. Other performers present included Shakira, Leona Lewis, Rascal Flatts and the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s latest production, Banana Shpeel.

As for the other contestants this season we can only wish them the best. They might not have their own show but Kevin Skinner, being the nice guy he is, might have them over as guests for his show if they ask nicely, just like the homeless guy he gave a shirt and some money to.

Top Chef Episode 6 Recap

top chef-thumbTop Chef is at the point when the heat is starting to get a bit too much leaving the “unlikables” extremely disliked by their peers/competitors. This year most competitors are not really that likable but they at least all have the same thing in common – they think Robin should go home. Granted that Robin has been irritating (to say the least), especially after last night’s show of lack of drive, I still think it’s more of a case of pointing fingers and/or snooty attitudes. Still I also think that had she not won the Quickfire challenge she might have been the one sent home.

Last night started off already drama-filled with some contestants donning red neckerchiefs in support of Mattin, who was sent home instead of Robin. Robin proved them wrong in the no-talent division by winning the Quickfire challenge and getting immunity with her “angel and devil” personality dish – arugula salad-cardamom apple ginger crisp combo. Everyone seems to think that her cancer story won her some points but hello I didn’t taste it but it sure looked good enough to win.

For the elimination challenge the contestants were asked to deconstruct some classic dishes. The big winner was Kevin who redeemed himself with his chicken mole. Something he wanted to do after his miserable duck mole. The bottom three included Ash (Shepherd’s pie), Laurine (fish and chips), and Ron (paella). Lucky for Robin she had immunity because for sure she would have been on the bottom three with her “repulsive” clam chowder. Ron went home for his paella for having poorly cooked rice and not being able to deconstruct the dish properly.

Katie Holmes Thinks She Can Dance

katie-holmes-sytycd“So You Think You Can Dance?” Apparently Katie Holmes thought she could, and though there are some naysayers out there, I have to agree with her this time. Critics have been saying that all she did was lip synch and go from pose to pose but all I can say is I wonder if the ones who say that can go from pose to pose as gracefully and looking so cool and absolutely stunning as she did. I am no Katie Holmes fan but she did look really good in SYTYCD 100th episode.

Aside from doing a great job with her homage to Judy Garland it’s really nice that Katie Holmes worked on the routine really hard to help draw more attention to the charity organization “Dizzy Feet Foundation.” Dizzy Feet Foundation’s mission is to “to support, improve, and increase access to dance education in the United States.” It is meant to help underpriviledged talented young dancers. They will start off by looking for 10 kids and offer them scholarship.

Of course, for the SYTYCD audience the highlight (or lowlight) of the 100th episode was the finding out who would be leaving that night. Like the judges I was very disappointed and surprised when Janette Manrara was voted off instead of Kayla Radomski. As Nigel Lythgoe said “America got it wrong” that night.

Oh well. Life goes on. As for the show we’ll see if it’ll be as interesting without my favorite around. I’m not saying that the other dancers are not high caliber but as anyone knows when your fave is out, out goes your excitement to watch a show.

Jon and Kate Plus 8 Episode Recap

Jon and Kate Plus 8 is back in full force and their beach vacation is over. Things seem to be looking up for Kate more and more, at least in terms of how the public view her, while things still seem to be going downhill for Jon, who still denies that he is going through a mid-life crisis despite his new earrings (Note: not new piercings, only the earrings are new).

Although I was half-expecting Kate to have a fit and the couple to get into another one of their “not so sorely missed” arguments by the end of the show it was obvious that the producers was just building up the anticipation maybe to add a little more drama. When Kate got home she didn’t like what she daw but instead of blowing up she gave a mere “Oh. Oh. Oh.” before she calmed down. Jon wasn’t even there with her so obviously no argument happened.

The entire episode was devoid of any shots of the ex-couple together although it was obvious that Kate, who still wears her wedding ring, still in a way wishes that things would be different. As Kate said, “I’ll never stop loving you [her kids] and Daddy.” A sentiment any mother can understand.

As for Jon let him express himself as much as he want to and let him be himself but for the kids sake let’s just hope that who he really truly is, is a much better dad than he’s been the past months.

Octomom Kids to Star in Reality Show

octomomIt was only a matter of time till Octomom got her own reality show – and now she has. I wouldn’t have cared if it was only her that would appear on the show but of course we know that what she’ll really be cashing on would be her kids. Nadya Suleman has signed the deal with Eyeworks, a European production company. If it weren’t for the kids I would love for that show to bomb.

The reality tv show deal she’s signed stipulates that each of her 14 kids will be earning $250 a day. For this year they’ll be shooting for 36 days. On the second and third year they’ll be shooting for 21 days and 14 days respectively. What this means is that collectively the kids will make $250,000 over the next three years. Filming will start this September.

The only real good news about this whole thing is that the deal specifies that 15 percent of the earnings will automatically be deposited to the kids’ trust fund, which can’t be touched even by their mom, till they reach eighteen or they become legally emancipated. So I guess they’ll at least have some savings.

Seriously though I enjoy watching reality shows as much as the next person sometimes things can just sicken you. As always it’s the kids that have to suffer. At least there’s no marriage to split up here. Let’s just hope the kids somehow end up better off with this.
