ABC’s Fall schedule announced

ABC is today announcing its Fall schedule at its annual upfront presentation in Los Angeles. Ten new shows are being announced, with seven already having slots on the Fall schedule.

On Mondays, Dancing with the Stars at 8:pm is paired with Castle at 10:pm.

Tuesdays boasts two new dramas. No Ordinary Family airs at 8:pm; the family-friendly hour-long is about an average family who are suddenly given superpowers. The Dancing with the Stars Results Show airs at 9:pm, followed by new procedural Detroit 1-8-7 (pictured above), a faux-documentary about cops on the toughest streets in America.

Wednesday is still ABC’s big comedy night, with The Middle kicking off the evening at 8:pm, followed by new romantic comedy Better Together. Modern Family and Cougar Town air in the 9:pm hour, followed by the new legal drama The Whole Truth, which is built around an intriguing premise where point-of-view is constantly shifted to provide new insights on the goings-on. (Sounds kind of like that movie Vantage Point.)

Thursday is all about drama, with the new My Generation airing at 8:pm, which charts the lives of high school friends ten years after graduation. Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice round out the night.

Friday kicks off with the new reality show Secret Millionaire, which is sort of like Undercover Boss, with the ultra-rich living on minimum wage to see how the other half lives. New medical drama Body of Proof follows at 9:pm, with 20/20 retaining its longtime timeslot at 10:pm.

Saturdays are all about College Football, while Sundays look very familiar with the current lineup of America’s Funniest Home Videos, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and Brothers & Sisters, all intact.

Waiting as midseason replacements are comedies Happy Endings, Mr. Sunshine, the new Shonda Rhimes medical drama Off the Map, and the just-renewed V.

CBS’ Fall schedule

CBS has picked up five new series for its Fall 2010 schedule, and canceled a surprising seven shows — five of which are multi-year veterans of the network.

The cancellations: Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer, Numbers, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Gary Unmarried, Miami Medical, and Accidentally on Purpose. Ghost Whisperer, which has consistently won its Friday night time period for years, is probably the biggest surprise on the list. But ABC is said to be considering picking up both Whisperer and Old Christine.

The new CBS schedule looks like this:

Monday is the network’s big comedy night, with returning hits How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, and Two and a Half Men leading off the night starting at 8:pm (Charlie Sheen returns to the veteran comedy despite claims earlier this year to be quitting the show). At 9:30pm you’ll find new romantic comedy Mike & Molly, about a couple who hit it off at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. 10:pm ends the comedy block with the debut of the network’s highest-profile new drama, a contemporary reimagining of Hawaii Five-O, which has a promising cast, and creators with big-screen pedigree in the form of frequent J.J. Abrams collaborators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

Tuesday keeps a good thing going with returning dramas NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and The Good Wife, in the same time slots where they aired this season.

Survivor moves away from its longtime home of Thursday to Wednesday at 8:pm. It’s followed at 9:pm by Criminal Minds, and at 10:pm the new legal dramedy The Defenders, about a pair of unconventional lawyers in Las Vegas.

Thursday is starting to form the foundation of a potential second comedy block, with the surprising relocation of The Big Bang Theory to 8:pm on the most-watched night of the week. It’s followed by the new comedy $#*! My Dad Says, based on the popular Twitter account of the same name, about a young man living with his abrasive, opinionated father who says anything he wants, no matter how politically incorrect. 9:pm still belongs to CSI, naturally, and is still followed by The Mentalist at 10:pm.

On Friday, Medium moves to 8:pm without its former partner (Ghost Whisperer). Instead, CSI: NY will now air at 9:pm, followed by the new multi-generational cop drama Blue Bloods, headed by Tom Selleck.

Saturday offers CBS’ “Crimetime Saturday” programming for two hours in primetime, followed by 48 Hours Mystery at 10:pm.

Sunday brings back perennial favorites 60 Minutes and The Amazing Race, starting at  7:pm. Hit reality show Undercover Boss returns for a sophomore season at 9:pm, and the most popular sunglasses in television move to 10:pm with CSI: Miami.

Waiting for a mid-season pickup is a new spinoff of Criminal Minds, which is currently untitled.

Fox’s fall lineup unveiled

Fox’s Fall lineup has just been announced, and it features just five new shows — two of which won’t debut until Spring. Then there’s one from this guy you may have heard of named “something-Spielberg,” which hasn’t even been scheduled yet…

House moves to Mondays at 8:pm, to be followed at 9:pm by new show Lonestar, a complex drama “set against the backdrop of big Texas oil.” Sounds like Dallas: The Next Generation to me.

Tuesdays will be Fox’s new night for comedy, with Glee moving up an hour to 8:pm. Two new half-hours follow at 9:pm and 9:30 — Raising Hope, about a young man trying to raise his infant daughter with the help of his eccentric family, and Running Wilde, starring Will Arnett and Keri Russell) about a California playboy who tries to win the heart of an ultra-liberal humanitarian, who also happens to be his childhood sweetheart.

Wednesday finds Fox giving Lie to Me one last chance to find an audience at 8:pm, along with (yawn) another season of the narcissistic Hell’s Kitchen.

Thursday night continues the successful pairing of Bones at 8:pm with Fringe at 9:pm, which are entering their sixth and third seasons, consecutively.

Relegated to Fox’s “Friday death slot” — aka, the night no programming can survive on Fox (see: Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Inside, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, and on and on) — are Human Target and The Good Guys.

Saturday remains a night of catch-the-criminals hoo-hah, with two of television’s longest-running reality shows, Cops and America’s Most Wanted.

Sunday is still “Animation Domination” night, with back-to-back half-hours of The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, and American Dad, starting at 8:pm. They’ll be preceded by The OT, an NFL post-game show.

Joining the schedule mid-season will be procedural Ride-Along, half-hour romantic comedy Mixed Signals, and a fifth animated show on Sunday nights called Bob’s Burgers. Then there’s Terra Nova, a new Steven Spielberg creation, which has all the trappings of a big-budget blockbuster summer movie, only it’s a weekly hour-long. It finds an ordinary family caught up in a mission to save the earth by joining an expedition back to the time of the dinosaurs. Sounds really fun; here’s hoping they don’t stick it on Friday nights.

The CW’s Fall schedule

The CW has ordered just two new series for its Fall 2010 lineup, while canceling freshman series Melrose Place. The schedule looks like this.

Monday has 90210 at 8:pm, followed by Gossip Girl at 9:pm.

On Tuesdays, One Tree Hill is paired with Life Unexpected — two shows that weren’t expected by most industry insiders to be renewed for another season.

Wednesday brings America’s Next Top Model at 8:pm, and new show Hellcats at 9:pm, about a cheerleading squad at a college in the South.

Thursdays have The Vampire Diaries, followed by the new action-packed series Nikita, starring Maggie Q as an assassin who goes rogue.

On Fridays, Smallville‘s final season is paired with Supernatural.

The CW remains the only broadcast network with no half-hour comedies on its schedule.

Earlier today, I told you about the twelve new shows NBC has on tap for the Fall 2010 season. Now NBC has released trailers for all but one of them, and here they are. (Law & Order: Los Angeles has no trailer, as nothing has been filmed yet.)
