It cannot be denied that a growing number of people today prefer to watch their favorite TV shows and films on the internet. This is also one of the reasons why internet-ready devices have become very popular these days. In fact, a 2011 research confirmed that internet TV penetration can reach 60 percent by the year 2014.
Bain & Company conducted a study covering 3,000 consumers in various countries such as the U.S., U.K., China, France and India. The research found that majority of the respondents is more interested in internet video than the traditional TV. Another finding is the increase in social TV usage as viewers search for great content.
In addition, the study discovered that more than half of the people surveyed claimed they prefer to use search engines to look for video content. The use of search engines is high in the U.S. and the U.K.
A Yahoo! study also showed that more teens and young adults aged 13-24 are watching TV or talking on the phone today via the internet. They’re spending more time online rather than using the traditional TV and telephone. The amount of time spent online is 16.7 hours each week compared to TV watching at 13.6 hours, according to the study that covered some 2,500 young people.
An AOL study done in 2011 also supported these findings. It found that majority of American teens aged 12-17 or 81 percent spent an average of 12 hours online each week to check their emails and 70 percent go online to use the instant messaging service.
Most youngsters today are internet savvy and consider the internet as their top media preference.
